Infinite Monkey at Work
Soon after the house light flares
and the sleep killer chimes
Metaphor Monkey’s mate delivers
one steaming vial of bitterness
after another
to her rumpled dream dormatory
where she sips and stares
at shining keys of possibility
until the Gorilla Goddess of Inspiration
tosses a recycled brick through the window
signaling Monkey’s adept digits to begin
their random building of another word temple.
An unlucky prompt? On day 13 of NaPoWriMo, poets were given the option of using kennings in their creations. A kenning is two nouns joined together to euphemistically name or imply another word. An ocean, for example, might be called a “whale road.”
Oh that confounded Metaphor Monkey. enjoyed.
